Stakis To Ladbrokes to Gala

How Gala Casinos Became

Sir Reo Stakis (born Argyros Anastasis) (13 March 1913 - 28 August 2001) was a Scottish-Cypriot hotel magnate,
Stakis opened Scotland's first casino, the Chevalier, in 1964 and gradually added several other casinos to the Stakis group. The Chevalier was an immediate success, the first of an eventual chain of 22. He finally decided to sell his empire which consited of, 54, four-star hotels, 22 casinos and 70 health clubs to Ladbrokes in 1999.
Ladbrokes did not keep the casinos very long at all but in this short period managed to send out quartley staff magazines along with producing there own training money with Ian Paynes (MD) face replacing that of the Queen

Gala aquired the ladbroke chain of casinos in December 2000 and at this time consisted of  127 UK casinos, plus one each in Gibraltar and the Isle of Man, to its portfolio of 175 bingo halls around the country.

Halloween Facts

The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even ("evening"), that is, the night before All Hallows Day.[5] Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra hālgena mæssedæg, mass-day of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556
Development of artifacts and symbols associated with Halloween formed over time. For instance, the carving of jack-o'-lanterns springs from the souling custom of carving turnips into lanterns as a way of remembering the souls held in purgatory.[6] The turnip has traditionally been used in Ireland and Scotland at Halloween,[7][8] but immigrants to North America used the native pumpkin, which are both readily available and much larger – making them easier to carve than turnips.[7] The American tradition of carving pumpkins is recorded in 1837[9] and was originally associated with harvest time in general, not becoming specifically associated with Halloween until the mid-to-late 19th century.

Soldering The Ancient Art

Soldering! It sounds simple, it is simple, but only when you have been shown the basics. The older generation presumes everyone knows how to, as at some point in their life someone passed on that skill to them. But is it a skill we pass on to the younger generation. I think not

In this present throwaway society it is actually becoming a dying skill, why repair when you can replace for a few pounds? However this basic skill once learnt can save you hundreds.

Having realised this we reached out to our present engineers and asked the question, who would like to learn the basics? Michael Staley was very bold and was the first to respond and Ian Smith took up the challenge of taking the time to pass on his knowledge, Ian also took the time to get a small project for Michael to build so he could see the fruits of his labour. From the feedback this was a positive experience for both Ian and Michael.

If any of you do require any training on soldering please do ask, if there is any other skill sets you need training, again please do ask
